Monopod
Posted on September 9, 2011Since you will be shooting photos indoors with available light; the camera will have to be held steady. Professional photographers use a tripod. Tripods work great, but monopods works just as well and are easy to store under your car seat. Monopods (stores under your car seat) or tripods allows you to hold the camera very steady to get high quality interior photographs when the light conditions are not the optimum.

A monopod can also be used as a camera extender to get mini-aerial shots of patios, pools, exterior shots and more. Simply set the timer on the camera and hold the monopod above your head, it will take a few practice shots till you learn the technique.
Check out this excellent post on the Photography for Real Estate Blog. The following photo by Paul Deines, real estate photographer in Denver, CO is an example of using a monopod for Pole AerialPhotography. Paul says, “it’s really making a difference in my exterior photos. Using this technique, I can shoot over cars parked in front of properties. Nine feet of elevation makes just enough of a difference to change the regular eye level perspective of my exterior shots.”
Paul is using a Nikon 8700 on a long monopod, a remote shutter release and a Casio monitor to get this kind of shot. See how much better exterior shots look with a little extra elevation.

Check out monopods on amazon.com, you will be amazed how inexpensive they can be. I really like the Manfrotto 682B Self Standing Monopod
, the feet add tripod functionality.
